Saint Clare’s Health Acquires the New da Vinci™ Surgical System

Denville, NJ (October 10, 2019) – Saint Clare’s Health is proud to announce that it has acquired the latest da Vinci™ Xi Surgical System. The da Vinci Xi system has broader capabilities than prior generations of the da Vinci system. It can be used across a wide spectrum of minimally invasive surgical procedures and has been optimized for complex, multi-quadrant surgeries.

Saint Clare’s Health has been utilizing the da Vinci Surgical Systems since 2006. They have provided patients with a minimally invasive alternative to open surgery that reduces many of the costs and complications associated with open procedures. The new da Vinci system is designed with the goal of further advancing the technology used in minimally invasive surgery for complex diseases and conditions in gynecology, urology, thoracic, cardiac and general surgery. This leading second-generation robotic technology enables surgeons to operate through single incision, minimizing scarring.

The Advantage of the Xi System

The new Xi system offers efficient anatomical access and crystal-clear 3D-HD visualization. By enabling more efficient access throughout the abdomen and chest, the da Vinci system expands upon core da Vinci features, including wristed instruments, 3D-HD visualization, intuitive motion and ergonomic design. As with all da Vinci systems the da Vinci Xi system’s immersive 3D-HD vision system provides surgeons a highly magnified view, virtually extending their eyes and hands into the patient.

Compared to prior da Vinci systems, the da Vinci Xi system’s key features include:

• A new overhead instrument arm architecture designed to facilitate anatomical access from virtually any position.

• A new endoscope digital architecture that creates a simpler, more compact design with improved visual definition and clarity.

• An ability to attach the endoscope to any arm, providing flexibility for visualizing the surgical site.

• Smaller, thinner arms with newly designed joints that offer a greater range of motion than ever before.

• Longer instrument shafts designed to give surgeons greater operative reach.

The da Vinci Xi offers improved vision

The da Vince Xi 8mm endoscope provides the surgeon a brighter, higher resolution view of the surgical field with integrated Firefly® fluorescence imaging to highlight specific issues such as vessels and bile ducts. The Xi offers great patient access. The boom mounted architecture of the da Vinci Xi surgical system improves access around the patient with redesigned arms to provide greater range of motion.

A System Designed for the Future

The da Vinci Xi system is an expandable technology platform that is designed to accommodate and seamlessly integrate a range of current technologies in areas such as imaging, advanced instruments, and anatomical access, as well as future innovations.

The first surgery using the da Vinci SI will be on Friday, October 11th by Aram E. Jawed, M.D.

Dr. Jawed is a general surgeon, board certified by the American Board of Surgery specializing in laparoscopic, bariatric, and robotic surgery. Dr. Jawed is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). He is also certified by da Vinci® Surgical as a robotic surgeon.

After successful completion of his general surgery training at Morristown Medical Center, he received the Resident Achievement Award from the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons. He completed an additional year of minimally invasive bariatric and robotic surgical training as a Fellow at the Innovation Health in northern Virginia and a Bariatric Center of Excellence.
