Emergency Care
Chest pain or tightness, uncharacteristic discomfort in other parts of the body, shortness of breath, cold sweats, nausea, and lightheadedness may be indicators of a heart attack. If you feel you may be having a heart attack, call 911 immediately.
Saint Clare’s emergency squads, as well as municipal squads throughout the region, have received special training on the identification of potential heart attacks. In the event of a suspected heart attack, Saint Clare’s Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU) can transmit a patient’s EKG directly to the Emergency Department at Saint Clare’s Hospital/Denville. With this valuable test, clinical staff, emergency physicians, and cardiac specialists can often make a diagnosis before the patient reaches the hospital, saving valuable time.
After a definitive diagnosis is made in the emergency room, the patient will receive either interventional or medication treatments. If emergency angioplasty is warranted, patients will receive this life-saving procedure as soon as possible.
