Program Overview
The NYMC Anesthesiology Residency at St. Mary’s General Hospital and Saint Clare’s Health is a four-year ACGME-accredited categorical program with six residents per year.
Residents train at two major clinical sites—St. Mary’s General Hospital in Passaic and Saint Clare’s Health in Denville—providing broad exposure to diverse patient populations and surgical specialties.
Subspecialty training is complemented by rotations at:

Lincoln Medical Center — Obstetric anesthesia

Nemours Children’s Hospital — Pediatric anesthesia

Westchester Medical Center — Neuro anesthesia
Our program combines strong clinical training, close faculty supervision, structured board preparation, simulation, mentorship, and opportunities for research and quality improvement.
Curriculum
PGY-1 – Clinical Base Year
Build a strong foundation in medicine and perioperative care with early exposure to anesthesiology.
CA-1 – Foundations of Anesthesia
Develop core skills in general anesthesia, airway management, preoperative evaluation, obstetrics, regional anesthesia, and perioperative care.
CA-2 – Subspecialty Training
Expand into pediatric anesthesia, neuroanesthesia, critical care, pain medicine, advanced regional anesthesia, and other subspecialty experiences.
CA-3 – Advanced Practice
Manage increasingly complex cases with graduated responsibility while preparing for independent practice and ABA examinations.
Education
Protected education is held every Wednesday from 6:00–7:00 AM, with a monthly Morbidity & Mortality Conference from 7:00–8:00 AM on the last Wednesday of each month.
Our educational program includes didactic lectures, board-style questions, oral board and OSCE preparation, simulation, journal club, and faculty-led case discussions.
Board preparation begins early and continues throughout residency.
