Growth and Development
Professional development opportunities are available to all nurses at Saint Clare’s, and we are deeply committed to developing a pipeline of emerging nurse leaders. There are opportunities to advance along three professional development pathways: management, education, and clinical.

Management

  • Shift Supervisors – This position is the first step on the management pathway and was created to allow for enhanced front-line leadership. The nurses in these positions take care of patients and provide management guidance to the nurses on their unit. Shift Supervisors are mentored by the Operations Manager to develop their leadership skills and knowledge of unit based hospital operations.
  • Shift Administrators – This position allows Master’s-prepared nurses with extensive clinical experience to provide clinical and administrative expertise on a hospital-wide basis during a specific shift. They have the authority to act on behalf of administration and the management team, and assume responsibility for supervision of staff as a representative of hospital administration.
  • Director – This position allows Master’s-prepared nurses to have comprehensive responsibility for nursing units throughout the organization. These nurses are involved in insuring nursing operations operate at maximum productivity and efficiency. In addition, they may develop new business initiatives for the health system, assist with strategic planning, and develop clinical and quality initiatives.
  • Executive Director – This position allows Master’s-prepared or doctorally-prepared nurses to be responsible for nursing practice throughout the organization, as well as overall hospital operations and financial performance for multiple nursing departments.

Education

  • Clinical Nurse Educators – This position is the first step on the education career tract and was created to allow for just-in-time education. The nurses in these positions provide patient care, assess learning needs, and provide education to the nurses on their unit.
  • Clinical Education Specialist – This position allows Master’s-prepared nurses to develop curriculums to address learning needs, provide education, orientation and skills training for all nursing staff, act as a resource for Clinical Nurse Educators, and administer the Nurse Residency Program.
  • Director of Education- This position allows a doctorally-prepared nurse to oversee the Education Department, including responsibility for establishing curriculum and measurement of outcomes.

Clinical

  • Staff Nurse – In this position, BSN-prepared nurses or experienced associated nurses provide extraordinary family centered care to patients in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Clinical Specialists or APNs – In these positions, Master’s-prepared or doctorally-prepared nurses specializing in a particular practice area provide clinical expertise to staff nurses and serve as resources for various service lines.

Saint Clare’s also empowers our nurses to elevate their practice every day through various councils – including an Education Council, Practice Council and Research and Quality Council – each emphasizing evidence-based practice.

Additionally, at Saint Clare’s, the nurse executive team is dedicated to advancing and leading the profession by recognizing and retaining expert nurses at the bedside. A collaborative team of nursing leaders and nursing staff developed a meaningful promotional program – a differentiated nurse practice model. This nationally-recognized model, based on Patricia Benner’s “Novice to Expert” concept, recognizes advanced clinical competencies of our expert bedside nurses.
